I've a small social experiment. Its related to the game of the ravens if you're familiar with that concept from biology.
Here's the setup: You have a herd of sheep, and so does your neighbor. Both of you have a constant problem with wolves getting at your sheep. The two of you work out an agreement; you watch over his field as you look over yours and he'll do the same for you.
There are a few possible outcomes:
*With you both watching over each others fields, neither you nor him will lose any sheep. *If he is dishonest but you are truthful, you will lose all of your sheep and he will keep all of his. *If you are dishonest and he is truthful, he will lose all of his sheep but you will keep all of yours. *If both of you are dishonest, both of you will lose only half of your sheep.
Here are your options:
*Keep to your agreement, and possibly keep all of your sheep but also risk losing all of your herd. -or- *Be dishonest and be guaranteed to keep at least half your herd and possibly keep your full herd.
-edit- these are the only two valid answers for this test, any other solutions I can't use.
If you want to participate, I'll be screening comments so that your answer won't be persuaded by what other people post

Haven't been here on LJ for awhile, sorry if I've missed anything big. it seems that things have changed quite a bit while I was gone, I cant even read my pages any more since it appears that the layout settings have changes and now my custom layouts are now completely messed up, and I don't know how to fix it.
I've been in a sour mood lately, there's a group of friends in the next room over, laughing and having a great time and all I want to do is leave. damn happy people, picking the night that I want no one near to come over and have fun...

what do we do, and where do we go once our escapes become our entrapments and what once gave lift to our freedoms now tie us to in place to the ground?

I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go,and did what others feared to do. I asked nothing of those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness... should I fail. I have seen the face of terror; felt the stinging cold fear; and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moments love. I have cried, pained and hoped... but most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten. At least someday, I will be able to say I was proud of what I was... a soldier. ~~~George L. Skypeck
If you know a soldier, past or present, be sure to thank them today, (and any chance you get for that matter) no matter your views of war, they fought, so we don't have to.

I received this in my email this morning.
( Patriot's Poem )
I gotta say, it sounds like a call to arms. And that IS a constitutional right. (Never forget that the Bill of Rights only entitle the American population one single thing. Instead it exists to place limits on the powers of the government. The one right the it does grant us is to do away with and rebuild the government as the people of the United States see fit.)
Regardless of how you feel about each individual issues pointed out in that poem, you can't deny that the decisions were made without true input from the people those laws are supposed to represent. "For the People, By the People" has come to mean, "For the Few, By the Few, Imposed on the Many."

I know, I haven't done any updates in a long time, so I'll just hit on a few points. ( a few recent points in my life )
The Main topic of posting, Highs and Lows.
I just moved into an appartment. Me and my friend John have been talking about doing this since highschool, and now its happened. Over the last few days, I've been moving my stuff into the extra bedroom of the apartment that him and his gf, Jenn share. We were planning to make it a social event, move my stuff in with help of friens, then finnish off the night with cards and drinks. Well, most people had to work until around nine, so we told them to come over after. But I was at the hospital by that point. I could not breath and had spent most the day gasping for breath. Turns out that I have bronchitis. Luckily, I'm not contagous, and by the time I got back to the apartment, people were still there. Including a new friends that I had invited out to meet everyone. I felt really bad at the hospital since I'm the only one that knew here and she's never been to the appartment before, but it worked out.
I can't smoke, and I can't drink, my nerves are going to be fried by the time I'm done with the meds.
I'm sitting at my parents house right now, theres family intown for my sister-in-law's baby shower. how my brother and every married guy in the family managed to get out of going to the shower was to have a guys party at the same time, sadly though, that means EVERY guy in the family. so sitting here at home though, my mom is again pressureing that I should get a girlfriend and mayby get married. yeah, not going to happen. I tend to make sure of that. hell, the girl I'm sort of with now is gay. ( I do like challenges)

Your result for The What Greek God Are You Test... Hephaestus You are most like Hephaestus, the god of fire and craft! Hephaestus was a patron of blacksmiths. Hardworking, incredibly clever, though a bit of a loner. Known for forging incredible gifts and clever traps. Achilles' armour at the battle Troy is attributed to him, as is Pandora's Box. Unfortunately, while he was off toiling, his beautiful wife Aphrodite was cheating on him with Ares. So while you're into making things and are a straightforward genuine person, don't forget to pay attention to your loved ones from time to time! Take The What Greek God Are You Test at HelloQuizzy

| Ten Point Plan to "Change" the Second Amendment |
[ | |

|
1) Ban the use of firearms for home defence.
2) Pass Federal laws eliminating your Right-to-Carry.
3) Ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.
4) Close down 90% of the gun shops in America.
5) Ban rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.
6) Increase Federal taxes on guns and amunition by 500%.
7) Restore voting rights for five million criminals including those who have been convicted of using a gun to commit a violent crime.
8) Expand the Clinton semi-auto ban to include millions more firearms.
9) Mandate a government-issued license to purchase a firearm.
10) Appoint judges to teh U.S. Supreme Court and Federal judiciary who share his views on the Second Amendment.
*Source: The National Rifle association of America
I never joined the NRA because I don't always agree with their views. I don't agree that anyone who wants should be able to possess any firearm they choose at any time they desire. But I support then in the belief that the 2nd amendment should NOT be tampered with.
For the record, the 2nd amendment does not grant the freedom of gun ownership. it restricts the Federal government from banning gun ownership.
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
**Source: http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.billofrights.html Militia does not refer to a state run military, a militia, is an organized group of militant civilians.
I will always try and defend the 2nd amendment, not just because I like the idea of gun ownership, but because it is a part of the Bill of Rights. If one may be sacrifised, then any may be sacrifesed at the discrestion of the government.

I hate election years. WAY too much mudslinging, Mounds of filth, hypocritical standards, and a backlash of lies. its sad when you know more about how one candidate views the opponent then you know about the candidate him/her self.
In a class that focused on civic service, I was once asked to rate a list of 15 items rating them from most important, to least important duties of civic service. I rated voting as last. Nevermind that voting is NOT a civic duty, it is NOT a responcability, it is not even a right! It is a privilege. More to the point, and I quote this directly from a professor of politics I had as a teacher several years ago " A person is just aslikely to vote for someone because of a dress their wife woreas they are to vote based on the canidates issues" then there are also the people that want to vote based off the issues, well that doesn't always work. its hard to know who really supports what you want.
I'll give an easy example: "Canidate John Doe Says he supports "X" cause, but when faced with the supporting bill "ACD-WYZ" he refused to vote on it. Aren't you tired of the rhetoric with no action? Vote on someone you can count on to make a change!"
There are two parts the this short message, the objective part: "Canidate John Doe Says he supports "X" cause, but when faced with the supporting bill "ACD-WYZ" he refused to vote on it."
...and the subjective part: "Aren't you tired of the retoric with no action? Vote on someone you can count on to make a change!"
Since voting should be an objective, and educated process, lets forget about the subjective part, for now atleast. Fictional canidate John Doe still didn't vote for the bill that supported his supposed cause. This, in its context is true, if it were not then it would be slander. But that doesn't mean that that he does not really support the cause. There is too much information missing. WHY didn't Doe vote on that bill? Polititions have a habit of killing bills by tacking too many little extras onto it. maybe he liked the bill, but didn't like what was added to the bill. perhaps what was added was worse then the bill not passing. then if they pass the bill despite what was added, then a canidate can come by later and say that Doe voted in favor of a bill that had "this or that" negitive clauses on it.
But then again, maybe he IS simply twofaced (not a batman referance, this is a traditional architype) and really doesn't support where he claims to.

I'm reading a book for a class I just started this Monday. it was writen around teh turn of the last century and is set in the Gilded Age, as I'm reading it, there was this one parragraph that really struck out at me.
"But in another moment she seemed to have descended from her womanly eminence to helpless and timorous girlhood; and he understood that her courage and initiative were all for others, and that she had none for herself. It was evident that the effort of speaking had much greater than her studied composure betrayed, and that at his first word of reassurance she had dropped back into the usual, as a too adventurous child takes refuge in it's mother's arms"
I don't know what the rest of you get out of that, but to me, its a dead ringer on a few friends who I care deeply about, they will stand alone against the world if they were asked to for something they believe in, yet have no ability to stand for what they need themselves.

What the bloody hell is going on here? I'm sure that everyone who knows me knows that I don't by into popularized bullshit. I don't like stereotypes, and I hate, HATE, when people work to conform to any ideas of what they are "supposed" to do or look like. I'm very much into thinking idependantly, and one of teh things that pisses me off about free societies is this quote I heard told as a joke, but sadly its not. "When people are free to do what they want, they often immitate one another"
no kidding! regardless of if your trying to fit in with a mainstream culture, subculture, or even and anti-culture, there are the typical norms of appearance. have I ever cared about those? I'd be a lier if I said no, but I sure don't try to match them! I don't thing your clothes do a very good job at making political statements, so I don't try, why do people think that they are making a socio-economic protest by refusing to wear certain clothes? (I'm not even the Highschool Anti-Conformist conformist mind-slaves even know what socio-economic means, they should stop acting like any one cares)
Now, before I continue to de-rail this train of though, let me try and get back on track. clothing is simply clothing, it is protection from the elements, it preserves modesty (hopefully) it will give clues to what we do, or what we are upto. why waste your time trying to fit into predetermined catagories? why not just wear something because its comfortable? or practical? functional even! if you like the way a polo shit fits you, wear it, if your more comfortable in some baggy jeans, just try not to lose them when walking. think those fishnets make you look good and you want the attention? go for it!
you clothing should be a reflection of your self, not what you think you should look like according to you sterotyped nitch in society, but by what you want to wear.
Now moving on yet again, this time to why I started this rant in the first place! I have my own apearance, but it is becoming less, and less destinctive. when I grew my hair out, I was one of only a few people with long hair. it wasn't trendy, there was no look I was going for, I just got tired of getting my hair cut and after a while, I started to get some amusement from it being long enough to playwith. (and I didn't mind that the girls in class liked playing with my hair either) but now everywhere I look, I see just as many guys with long hair as I do girls! ok, not quite, but there does seem to be an off culture to it. doubled up coats. this is nothing new. people have always done this. wear a lined denim, or canvas type work coat over a zippered up hoody. its great for camping, thats where I started doing that. its not the best look, but its practical. i'v literally been doing that as my regualr coat for years, and I have about 10 coats that I'll mix, match , layer, or wear independantly. hey, guess what? hot topic started selling that look! only instead of it being something practical, its just the look being sold, the sweater is stiched into the outer coat!, but there is still a zipper on the sweater, then buttons on the outer shell of a coat so it looks liek two coats.
Ok, now I'll REALLY talk about why I started this rant, Honest this time! things I'v done over the years have slowly evolved to where I am now, everything about me is a result of my own life, and the lives of those around me. but some how, its all bying cheapend, but cause I'm seeing clones of myself more and more frequently! I'm not kidding, 15 min's before sitting to write this, I saw a kid who was built like me, but a bit shorter, wearing THE SAME hat that so many of you met me in, you know the one, the black leather hat with the full brim. he had the same facial hair, pony-tail at the same length, wearing casual/work boots, loose jeans, neutral colored tee-shirt with a solid color flannel shirt un-buttoned on top of if. if that isn't an exact description of what I wear, and how I look, then I apearently have never looked in a mirror. the sad thing is, is that I've been seeing more and more people with that save apperance lately. its not random either, its always stylized. WTF? when did my appearance become "just another sterio type"?

following upthe posts from earlier this month, things have worked out the way they should, not the way I would like but the way they should. our friendship is still intact, posibly abit stronger even, but the door I wish had never been shut has now been nailed so tightly closed that It will never open agian. I don't like that, but atleast I can move on to look for a new door, (or stop lingering around this one) since theres no point hanging around this one.
any of you remember my complaining about a "leadership" class that I've hated so much? the one that has nothing to do with leadership? well, I'm no longer in the class, I droped it, but before I droped it,I managed to have teh requirement for the class waivered, so I'm still on track to finnish my AA this summer.
Tartan days went FANTASTIC!!! I've been waiting for it for a while now and I had a great time. I built a demo area over night, and had a great responce from everyone who saw me carving out benches.
the next morning however, (today) was not so great. I've been sick all day, and not only due to Tartan days, but much drama with in the faire cast. I don't want to say too much since it is, and should reamin internal, in source, and in resolution. but I will say, not as many people know whats really going on as they think they do. I'm sure I'm included in that count. I'm acctually physically sick because of this

Out on a limb, and shaking like a leaf. Winter has come, the snow has fallen. All the others are gone, theres no one else here. Sad and alone, remembering lonely grief. At the end of this twig, no friends for relief. They've all moved on, to the ground they've fallen. Stuck on this twig, freezing in the wind, Family is gone, no shelter is near. Afaid to fall, afraid to let go.
how long has it been since I'v attempted poetry? I think the last bit I wrote was before I even knew what LJ was.
*edit* just reread it. the focus what supposed to be about fear of moving forward, but lonelyness is what came across.

If you've talked to me in person asking how schools going, you've probably heard me bitching about a class I'v hated since the 1st day. I didn't hate it because it was too hard, the coarsework wasn't hard, but I never once sat allthe way through class without wanting to walk out because I was so pissed at what the teacher was saying. ( a letter to taht teacher I will never send, its nothing more then me ranting some more about it ) If you read the whole of that letter, I'm sorry, it was long.
Well, I couldn't stand being in that class anymore. There was one reason I was staying, IDS:101 is a requirement to take IDS: 202. and that is a class everyone is required to take to graduate. and that is the only class I'll have left to take in the summer to be done.
Guess what? I met with an adviser today, and found out my paperwork was approved and I was given a waiver for the IDS:101 requirement! I filled out the drop for a minute later to be removed from that class
